Cheshire Crossing

written by Andy Weir

illustrated by Sarah Andersen

Who would've guessed that my first Andy Weir book was going to be this one. I could have read the Martian like everyone, or Artemis, or Project Hail Mary, but no. I’ll get to those books eventually. What I needed at the start of 2025 was exactly this.

This graphic novel has Alice from Wonderland, Wendy from Neverland, and Dorothy from Oz. They all meet at a Cheshire Crossing, a boarding school for girls, and it doesn’t take long for their past adventures to catch up to them. All three of their worlds collide in unexpected, wacky ways.

This flow of whimsy and tight storytelling is just what I look for in a graphic novel, and this one delivers. Sarah Andersen of Sarah Scribbles fame is the illustrator and deserves her flowers for how richly she brought the characters to life. If you want something to whisk you away to magical lands and have to decide between a rabbit hole, tornado, or the second star on the left, I say “why choose?”
