About

Hello from your friendly neighborhood bookworm! My name is Amber, and as you might have guessed, I love books. I even got in trouble as a child for taking all of my books off the shelves and gathering them all around me in a giant group hug of literature, and though I've grown since then, the urge hasn't left.

Stories enthrall me, and it doesn't matter what form they take either. It could be a movie, tv show, cartoon strip, comic, or video game, and as long as it has a compelling, well-done story, I'm in. But for me, books are the ultimate way to experience a story. When all you have to go off of is words on the page, your imagination becomes responsible for filling in the lines. Wise authors have said that the book belongs to the reader. While we may worship those same authors, this statement is correct. In your own head, the story becomes yours. You've narrated it in your own voice, defined the setting, and made connections with characters that only you can see. It is personal and everyone can absorb and interpret it in different ways.

In 2013 I founded the blog "Reading With Your Eyes Shut". The reason was simple in that I wanted to talk about books and hadn't yet met the people who would share my enthusiasm. I was reading more than ever and each book I finished left me exploding with reaction that had no fair outlet, for as much as my friends appreciated my interests, I didn't want to test the boundaries of their patience. So I recorded! I wrote down all of my thoughts on each book I read, and slowly built up a database of past reads. It was so much fun.

And still is. Harnessing my passion has led to some pretty cool happenings, but always at its core "Reading With Your Eyes Shut" is the embodiment of a girl who wanted to talk about books. So if you've found yourself here, welcome! I hope you enjoy reading my reviews as much as I enjoyed writing them.
